Double decker on the road in Kochi
A double decker bus runs on Kochi roads, again after more than 35 years. The new double decker bus purchased by KSRTC started commercial operations from yesterday. The bus, RN766, is based in Angamaly depot and works Angamaly-Thoppumpady service. The bus starts off from Angamaly at 6.15 in the morning towards Thoppumpady. The bus makes Thoppumpady-Kalamassery trips during the day, and the last trip is from Thoppumpady to Angamaly, reaching there are 8 pm.
Double decker buses were run in Kochi from 1969 to 1975. The service ran from Wellingdon Island to Palarivattom in those days. This type of bus is returning to the city after 36 long years. The bus was initially flagged off by the Transport Minister, Adv Jose Thettayil, during the inauguration of the new bus terminal at Vyttila. However, regular operations of this bus commenced only yesterday. The bus can carry a total of 73 passengers. The bus collected a total of Rs. 4000 on the first day of operations.
The double decker bus will charge only ordinary fares. In addition to this, two new JnNURM Low Floor AC buses were also launched yesterday. Both the buses run on Angamaly-Fort Kochi route. The timings of the Double Decker bus is as follows:
From Angamaly: 06.15 (To Thoppumpady, via Aluva bypass, Edappally, Bypass, Vyttila, Kundannoor)
From Thoppumpady: 08.45, 12.00, 15.15 (To Kalamassery, via Kundannoor, Vyttila, Edappally)
From Kalamassery: 10.30, 13.45, 17.00 (To Thoppumpady, via Edappally, Vyttila, Kundannoor)
From Thoppumpady: 18.25 (To Angamaly, via Kundannoor, Vyttila, Edappally, Aluva bypass)
